Joseph T. Rasmussen
Joe is a native of Audubon County, having been born and raised on a farm northeast of Exira. Joe attended Exira High School and upon graduation attended Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa where he received a Bachelor of Science in Finance. After graduation, he worked as a grain merchandiser for the next five years with Archer Daniels Midland at the following locations: Mankato, Minnesota; Mexico, Missouri; and Lincoln, Nebraska. He then attended the University of Nebraska College of Law in Lincoln, Nebraska and graduated with a Juris Doctorate in December, 2009. At that time, he returned to Exira and began working with Robert D. Nelson at the firm of Rasmussen & Nelson. (Joe’s Great Grandfather and Great Uncle both previously practiced at the firm.) Joe visits the Elk Horn office on Tuesday afternoons and by appointment. Upon Bob’s retirement in 2011, Joe was a solo practitioner until September, 2015, an associate joined the firm. In 2016, he and Theodore R. Wonio formed Rasmussen, Nelson & Wonio, PLC. Joe’s areas of general practice include estate planning, income tax, probate, real estate and business transactions.
Joe is married to Abby (Best) and they have six children; Austin, Zoey, Skyla, Harper, Weston and Calvin.

Theodore R. Wonio
Theodore was born and raised in Davenport, Iowa. He received his undergraduate degree in Finance from St. Louis University and his law degree from Thomas M. Cooley Law School. Atlantic has been his home for the past seven years. He is a current member of the Atlantic, Iowa Jaycees; he serves on the Cass County Judicial Magistrate Nominating Commission; and he is a past board member of the Atlantic, Iowa YMCA. Theodore’s areas of general practice include probate and trust administration, estate planning, real estate, tax, family law, banking and finance, agriculture, and criminal law.
When not practicing law, Theodore and his wife, Andrea, enjoy spending time with their children Lainey, Marjorie and Tad Jr. and other family members. He comes from a family of lawyers; his father practiced law for over thirty-five years and three of his siblings currently practice law.
